So I have some brown stuff on my sand. Not sure what it is, maybe cyano. It is only where the flow isn’t great.

The problem is, how can I get the flow better.
I have a Biocube 29, I have two hydor 525gph wave makers and upgraded the pump to a Sicce Syncra Silent 3.0 which is 714 gph. That comes out of the bulkhead into a y.
That seems like a lot already.

I have changed things up and can’t find a setup the keeps everything clean.

Here is some pictures.

Anything I can do?

Thanks
Andrew

using the tube that you use for water changes, stick it in the dirty spots in the sand for 1 to 2 seconds then lift up and repeat somewhere else while doing a water change.

When you say siphon, do you mean take it all out and put it back in?
I had lots of brown algae on my sand, and it was so fine grain that I couldn't siphon, I have since replaced it with the largest grain sand I could get my hands on and I can now gravel vac it :)

It is also easy to turn over so that I can have an always white sand bed.

This is common in a new tank. That sand does look too fine to vacuum. Wait it out, or siphon it out and go coarser, or none at all.

I try to Stir it up every couple days. I am able to vacuum it somewhat but I do tend to end up losing a lot to the bucket.

I also haven’t done a water change in a while as I seem to have a possible dino outbreak. I also just added a UV sterilizer for the dinos.

The tanks isn’t really new anymore. It is about 18 months old.

Thanks.

Losing sand to the bucket? When it starts climbing up the tube, pinch off the hose a bit and let the sand drop.

Other than that, generally, decrease white light, decrease feeding, increase water changes.

Ok I will try pinching the hose.

Here are some pictures with only white light.

Doesnt look bad at all.

Lol, ok, am over just over reacting then. I would love for it to be all white all the time, maybe that is not possible.

I feel like I keep seeing dinos everywhere and this could be that too. Is it same after the lights out for an hour in the evening or looking better in the morning?
To be sure you would need a microscope.

White sand is definitely possible, it might just take some regular maintenance until your tank matures.

Ok so once the dino are gone I will work to get the sand white.

The stuff in the sand doesn’t really disappear, it’s little bubble fibres, they usually for the most part go away at night and then grow back after the lights comes back on. Some days more the. Others.

Typically Dinos do that. Get a microscope for exact ID. There are may stains require different treatment. There is a really good Dino tread helped me in my fight.
Make sure nor phosphate our nitrate is 0.
