I'm new to the hobby i got my 1st saltwater tank (30g) 1 year ago and now......i'm setting up my 120G ( LPS , SPS ) i dont know which sand should i get . I'd like to hear from you, where did u buy ? price ? benifit ? Thank You

It really depends of the function, look, and flow of your tank. And obviously live sand is always a plus. But u can seed any sand type you want by putting live sand in the center of the tank and covering it with what type u want. If its a low flow tank u can use fine sand but if it high flow then u need bigger sand. Me i like the function of a deep sand bed. But u might like a shallow 1" bed or none at all. Hope this helps some.

I firmly believe in using a DSB, it's a major part of biological filtration in an aquarium. But for this to work, you will need the right substrate (aragonite), of the right size (sugar sized oolite), and the right depth (3+"), with the right microfauna (see below). Here is a good article about it, and its use:

Ron Shimek's Website...Deep Sand Beds

Here is the sand I used:

CaribSea Aragamax Aquarium Sand

and activated it with this:

If you go this route, as mentioned in the article, you should avoid certain sand sifting animals. This will expand on Dr. Shimek's explanation:

Sandbed Death: Innocent Killers - Marine Engineers | Marine Engineers

I used the same sand as downbeach, I didn't use a DSB in my display tank, just in my refugium.

I used sand from an already established tank to seed with.

Are you talking about actual sand or Aragonite? Personlly I would not use sand (or crushed coral for that matter). All substrate will become "live" in 4-6 weeks of the tank running.

i have leaned towards dry sand and rock approach over last 5 yrs or so. aragonite based substrate/sand can be found from caribsea anywhere from fine sugarsize to big pebble size range.
