If you are tired of looking at the glass, then add just a shallow sandbed. If you decide you don't like it, you can always siphon it back out!

Thin sand bed is a good choice if you are unsure

But also once coralline grows over a BB tank it looks natural

I have BB now and plan on adding some sand. I'm also tired of looking at the glass. My only problem is that I have a coral that is growing on the bottom glass. I have no idea how to remove it without damaging it. Over the weekend, I'll will be spray painting cardborad and placing it underneath the tank to see if it looks better. If it does, than no sand for me.

sand.... i can't live without it... i also choose caribsea special grade seafloor over any other one....

ill never use that sand again its too large and the grain size is not varied enough to allow for it to compact enough to not build up crap!

+1 on the tropic eden. its the only sand I will use anymore. Its just so clean. Get the reef flakes. all the others are just too fine in my opinion.

i just put some tropic eden sugar size in my 180 without rinsing and its not very dusty also it sank like a rock! this is the new sand for me!

I've run bb for a while, but like you said didn't like the look of it. I purchased a black cuttingboard type piece that I placed on the bottom and ran with that for a while. Then went back to sand. I guess I just like the natural look of the sand.

sand is nice, and looks nice, until you start having problems.
I had real fine grained sand, so that was a problem to begin with.
what happens is uneaten food easily gets buried in the sand, and no matter how much clean up crew you have, it wll never get to 100 percent of it.

sand is like carpet. if you have replaced your old carpet, you will see how nasty it is underneath, no matter how much you clean your carpet. same thing with sand. like someone mentioned, I have removed old sand, and it literally cleared the room just from the smell that came out of it.

I'll try using a larger grain sand (tropic eden flake) to see how it goes. I am probably just using the wrong sand.

I run a very shallow sand bed and siphon it out every time I do a water change. I clean it real good and put it back. I like the look of a clean white sand bed.
