So I am on the fence when it comes to sandbed.... I like the clasic white sand look, but also am intrigued by the tile that you can cover with coral.
I currently have a deep sandbed in a 150 and am putting together a new build for a 90. I am not sure what kind of tile people use? I am also wondering about the filtration and the benefits of the bacteria in the sand. I am thinking of adding some kind of media to my sump. Like this

Any thoughts or advise will be helpful thanks

All personal opinion. Both options will give you successful tanks. I personally love my white sand.

I have about 1/2 of sand and I also have a Marinepure block. Love both.

Not sure what you mean by tile- starboard is what people have traditionally used; basically white cutting board material. I used a sheet of white pvc and covered it with an inch or two of coarse sand.
