Sand sifter

Hey y’all I have a sand sifting starfish had it over 14 months just now it started losing 2 legs and I know it’s from inadequate diet I assume? I read to remove it before it decays but I feel so bad to just take
It out even though it’s already going through a lot. Any thoughts or suggestions

Leave it in you tank and your CUC will take care of it
Don’t know where you read to take it out and let it suffocate but that is horrible advice
