I am considering between the Sleeper Gold Head Goby and a pearly jawfish, probably a pair. Anybody have experience with either one ? do they just sift or burrow or both?

either one more beneficial than the other?

Not too sure about the pearly jawfish but I assume they will just make a burrow in your sandbed and stay in there maintaining it. The sleeper gold head goby will make a home for itself as well but will spend the day sifting though your sandbed eating microfauna and any scraps of food it finds. I am looking to get a diamond goby in my tank in the future.

If you are looking for an aerator / cleaner of the sand bed go with a couple conchs. Love me some sand sifting gobies however at least in my experience when burrowing they spit sand all
over my base rock. I’ve got 2 diff conchs in my RSM E260 now and I’ve been quite impressed at the job they are doing.

Just started a RSM E260 as well do you have a build thread?

my jawfish has his cave under a rock and never moves from that spot. I would not call it a sandsifter, basically it sifts the sand in only one spot.

Also, I built my tank for the jawfish, I have 5" sandbed just for him. If you have less than 3"-4" of sand, then the fish might not be happy, its a burrower.

I don't have a build thread - have had it up and running since November of 20’. Kept it as an AIO without adding in cabinet sump & skimmer. It was my intro to Saltwater Aquariums - have learned a lot - moving on though & will be ordering a WB Reef 100.3 or Infinia 125.3 real soon.

Hello, the sleeper gold head goby is the best they just sift without digging. I have always used their service and they are real good at what they do.

Stopped by an awesome LFS on my travels last evening. My vote as well. Actually might be picking up one myself.
