Sand sifting cuc

I’m surprised the “Tang police” haven’t spoke up haha. Just be ready to rehome or upgrade to a much larger system pretty soon.

That post just made you an honorary member of the Tang Police. Lol ;)

As far as sand sifting CUC, I am limited to snails since I have a Harlequin Tusk that loves clams, crabs and shrimp. I do have a couple Fighting Conch's that seem to get the job done though and they are pretty cool to watch hobbling around the tank with their awkward looking foot. :)

Tiger tail cucumbers are my favorite sand sifter..
Second are a conch.

Sand sifting gobies destroy everything and drop sand everywhere. Stay away.

Nassarius snails really are not sand sifters. They bury themselves till they detect food, they really do not clean the sand. They are ok clean up crew but do not clean the sand. They may turn over a little bit when they bury themselves.

Sand sifting stars are good but require a large sandbed or they slowly die, sometimes they take a while if they receive partial nutrition.

For clean up crew one of the best is the different mini brittle stars. They can get into anything and find left over food. For algae astrea and turbos.

Nice!

Hey I'm new to reefing. I set up my first 40 gal reef tank this year.

Oh I am, the hippo was a rescue

Is there a fish section at the APL I don’t know about? I hope this isn’t one of those “oh the poor fish was at a Petco so I saved it” deals

I am new in the reef game as well..... no where near capable/able to rescue anything! What are your plans with it? I have no local people whom I deal with, so when I needed to rehome fish that came with a tank I bought, I dropped them on the local shop, who sold them...

Uh,I work at a Petco and a customer bought the hippo tank and brought it back with ich and frayed fins. At that point my tank was a month old and I made the decision to save it.

I have never seen a cucumber get anywhere near a powerhead. They do not really climb glass, at least i have never seen this behavior. I dont really see mine tbh
Stays to the sand bed and every few months pops out and says hi in part of the tank i can see.

Oh cool where did you get him and what are the care requirements like? I heard that they are like little bombs if your not careful.

Pacificeast aquaculture, i have never experienced this, they do get large and if not enough food will split. Can then sell or gift the splits.
