Frustrated my sand sifting starfish died. Had for about 7 months. Anyone have one and how and what are you feeding it? I really want another but I realize I can't just put it in tank and not spot or direct feed.

They eat micro fauna and other stuff from sand. I do not think you can feed them directly. Try a brittle star or serpent star

Bummer. I have been told a ton of times, starfish in general are tough to keep, even in the most established systems. I had my sand star for only a few days before someone in the tank decided he was the meal of the day.

Some people have success. I had a linkia in a 180 for 2 years. Then gave it to a friend. But linkia and sand sitters are two that people say 300gal minimum. To sustain its food supply.

My sand sifter is a year old. I also used beach sand. And I think it has helped because of all the crap In it. But sooner or later it will starve to death.

This star fish could have died and the fish where just eating the body. Acclimation seems to be the biggest issue for success. I have successfully kept many things in this hobby that people told me would die
