So I got a zebra bar goby yesterday and the whole time it didn't kick any sand up. Now it's fanning the sand under my live rock and my tank looks like a mess! Is it going to stop doing this or is it going to continue. I thought they don't sift sand, that's why I got it. Also I have super fine sand.

He's not sifting sand per se, but rather creating a bolt hole. Once he has the area he wants to go to to feel safe when he is startled the behavior will subside.

Does it have a hosting tiger or pistol shrimp with it?
If not start thinking about one as the shrimp does the digging and the goby just stay lazy and use his burrows to hide in.

Is it a dartfish or a watchman goby? My answer is under the assumption that a zebra bar goby most frequently refers to Ptereleotris zebra.

No he does not, but would the postal shrimp cause that too?

I have a diamond goby that did the same thing when i first got him but after a few weeks or so the fine stuff got into the sump and now its mostly clear.
