Hey guys im about to start up my 150 gallon tank and wanted some input on which sand is best to use for fish. Im going to get a golbey so my bed will be pretty decent. Thanks in advance

I like tropic eden mini flakes for its consistency vs others that have bits of shells and other particles. Depends on what you prefer. You can look at a picture of the different varieties on one of the vendor sites that sell it. Just google.

Aesthetics certainly come into play. Some people like black sand, although I've always preferred Fiji Pink. Kept an engineer goby in a tank with Fiji pink without any problems.

Nature's Ocean Bio-Activ Live Aragonite Reef Sand is what I have been using. Its clean and doesn't cloud your tank.

I've always stayed faithful to Caribsea Products. Special Grade Reef Sand is my personal favorite. I do like to mix a couple different types in though in order to get some variance. Burrowers like to use larger grain sizes sometimes as well.

My favorite is a 50/50 Mix of the Special Grade and the Fiji Pink. They I'll throw in a small amount of crushed coral. I noticed in my 180 the sand burrowers would all grab the crushed coral pieces for the entrance to their dens.

I've seen the indo-pacific (black/white mix) in a reef as well and that was pretty nice. I tried Black sand (Tahitian Moon) in my first tank, while it was nice.... it made the dark look too dark. White sand reflects light, black sand absorbs it.

I use carib sea fine grain and for looks it's excellent but must say if u have any sand bed corals it's easy for fish to sweep the sand on the coral but have always had good luck with caribe sea. I think any brand would do just fine, so if price is a concern for you then I'd go with the brand that's best for your budget
