Sand trade, get yourself some biodiversity for your sand.

Another forum that I am on is currently getting ready to get a sand trade going and I thought you all may be interested.

All it is is everyone will send some (a cup) of the sand they have now from their tank to one central person, and then that person will mix all that is sent, feed it, take care of it and then in 8-12 weeks everyone will receive a package of sand in the mail.

So who is up for it? the more people we get in this the better it is for everyone.

If you are interested do a post in this thread saying "I'm in" In and you will receive a PM with directions in it within the next week or two.

GREAT idea, but I would never do it unless I personally knew everyone involved. I would recommend doing this with "reefer buddies" you trust... it's sooo easy to transfer all kinds of pests by doing this...

Again, great idea - not trying to bring it down at all, just think twice about it as you never know who has AEFWs, MENBs, RBs, Aptaisia, planaria, hydroids, etc.

The theory is that the person who keeps the sand during the trade will feed it and keep it in a dark area for 8 to 12 weeks. Thus keeping the critters alive but all nuisance algae's will not survive. Plus most parasites are species specific so they won't have a food source and will die off in the 8 to 12 weeks.

In order to get in on the trade you need to post an "I'm in" or something similar in the sand trade thread that is linked below. This is how you will be kept tract of when the trade happens.
