I am upgrading my tank and i figured while i'm upgrading and going through all this trouble that i should just fix everything i dont like with my tank right now. So, one of the things i dont like is my sand. It's too fine and it always flys around. So i had a few questions:
If i change my sand will anything happen to my water?
ALso, whats a good white sand that isn't too fine, but still a sandy look and not gravel like?

if it was me and i was upgrading i would use as much as the old sand as possible as its very benificial for the tank. i would put a thinker sand on top. over time the sand should clump together and not move as much but depending on the type of flow and how much the sand may still move around and there really not much you can do about it other than maybe go bare bottom.

how do you plan no upgrading?
what size was or is old tank and new tank?
what type of flow do you have and plan to have?

I've going through 3 upgrades and I always used new sand, with seeding from the old sand.
When you empty your old tank, you'll find out how bad the old sand is. Stirring up the old sand and putting in your new set-up would create an ammonia explosion.
