Yeah that’s what I use seems to be working good. I didn’t use any live rock or chemicals to cycle my tank. Just the live sand and dead shrimp method. My rock was actually in my yard. I power washed it. Bleached it with pool chlorine over night then cured in the sun for about two weeks. This was in November of last year. My tank is now cycled. I have eight hermit crabs two trokus snails, one cleaner shrimp,two clowns and two blue green chromis. A few bumps down the road but for the most part all’s good.
