Recently I was reading a discussion about a fellas struggle with Ich. As many of us are aware, it's an awful problem to have in an established reef, many of which are nearly impossible to catch all the fish out of without doing great harm to the corals etc.....
Anyways, a long time reefer who's experience and advice I trust, mentioned that with a "healthy sand bed" the Ich infestation will eventually go away. The premise being that when the parasite enters the tomont stage, critters in the sandbed will eat or process the tomonts. Thus breaking the cycle and eliminating the infection. This reefer says this has happened in their tank. I tend to believe them.
My question is, assuming this is true, what constitutes a "healthy sand bed"? What critters/microorganisms would snack on Ich tomonts?
