Which do you prefer, sand or bare bottom? If you prefer BB, lets see a pic please!

I was bb to start with with a black bottom and background, after 3 months I didn't like it and added sand. If you are curious about trying bare bottom go that way first and if you don't like it add sand later on. It's a bit easier to add it then it is to remove it. Here are pics of bb and then substrate

Sand can be a pain to keep clean.
A light colored sand will make tank brighter
Bare bottom easy to clean
No sand storms. But has a darker unnatural look. I like sand but have had bb. Plus I love wrasses and they like sand

I have bought the sand for my tank but have not put it in yet. I will be starting up the tank this weekend and I am having a hard time deciding which way to go. Its acrylic so that's mainly why I am considering BB

Wonder if GSP would cover the bottom and look like grass!! Lol

It does look better with sand, nice tank, thanks for sharing!

I have a 40 breeder bare bottom. I had a cutting board cut to fit it. Very easy to clean and I have GSP glued to it in several spots.

I had at least 4" of sand then went barre bottom but now starting to regret it not only because I lost two fish because of a mini cycle, but because of the look, sand looked a little better. Also, my fish that I have now seem stressed out.

I have both, a reefer 525 with sand and a reefer Nano without. A lthough there are obviously some fish you cant keep without sand I love the Nano without, its so much easier to maintain, all the parameters are perfect and it looks really clean. Thinking about it though I'm not sure what the 525 would look like with no sand it may be that it suits a smaller tank better.

I went BB on my latest setup and I love it. So easy to siphon out detritus and crud. Overall my parameters are stable and eventually the bottom will be covered in purple corraline which I think looks great.

For ease of maintenance and no sandstorms I prefer BB.
