I just got my algae scrubber 4x set up. it is expensive, but if it performs as I have read, then it will be worth it. Unfortunately depending on the scrubber you get, you may need to purchase a high performance air pump to make it function. for the surf 4x model I had to buy a pump that produces at least 10 lpm of air volume. I went with an Alita which is a reliable pump made for aerating ponds and can live outdoors and push a ton of air through a long hose to the bottom of a pond. So that is an additional $100+ depending on which model you need. Hopefully this is one of those times that you get what you pay for!
Yeah I haven’t seen a diy scrubber that is aesthetically pleasing. If I had a sump I could put it in I would consider it
You would have to ask the companies making them, I assume it’s because they feel they can charge that much money and still make sales?
