Save me from optical sensors...I hate them!

I know you have the Apex unit, but for those out there with interest, I went with the Tunze 3155 specifically because it has both an optical sensor and a backup float switch.

Tunze rocks. My ATK keeps beeping. Always something wrong. Got to clean sensor once a week. For get it. Its on my frag tank not going on my DT. Tunze did not skip a beat 2 years. I think i cleaned sensor twice

Well this doesn’t make a very strong argument for getting the Apex ATK. I guess I’ll have to order another Tunze 3155.

I've been using a spectrapure ato for the last 4 years. Includes peristaltic pump with a pressure switch, and a float for emergency overflow cutoff
No moving parts, and it has been rock solid.

I have the Neptune ATK, no problems. I also have a low and high sensor for my RO/DI reservoir, that is actually fed by my RO/DI unit using a solenoid valve.

I had one sensor go bad, but got a replacement. Otherwise no problems. I have zero light in my cabinet (unless I have the door open), and zero light leaking into my RO/DI reservoir. So no algae growth on the sensors.

I did it, drilled a hole through the wall, put the reservoir in the other room high up the wall (slightly higher than the top of the tank), and let the water slooowly drip in the sump. An air valve does this perfectly. Need some finetuning in the next days (more slowly or faster dripping).

I'm done with sensors, i'm pretty sure my tank will never overflow again this way. 20210210_183550.jpg

I don’t have any gunk and algae in my return section.
The only time I ever had a problem was on a faulty sensor, drive me nuts for weeks until replaced.

Except for a little toothbrush every week, this one going three years now.

For safety, I run a cheap 20 multi timer that turns the unit on every hour for one minute, its the failing in “on” position that worried me.
