I was curious if anyone is familiar at all with the new Olympus SP-550 UZ? I got a Fuji E900 for Christmas, but I am still stuck on Olympus! SO I think I will be selling the E900, and saving up for the SP-550. Does anyone know anyone who has played at all with the new Olympus? Here are a couple of the stats for it...

18X Wide angle zoom
Burst rate of up to 15fps
DUAL IMAGE STABILIZATION
ISO up to 5000
7.1 MP
FULL MANUAL EXPOSURE CONTROL
Macro Mode:
(Wide) 3.94” – infinity (.1m – infinity)
(Tele) 47.24” – infinity (1.2m – infinity)

The specs and press on this camera sure look good. However, depending on how serious you are about photography, I might be tempted to use the same 500.00 to buy a good used true DSLR.

Nikon...I have thought about that also. I am just torn. I am serious about photography...and seriously on a budget. I know that is a bit of an oxymoron. But I figure...once I get into a DSLR...then your talking lenses...and that's where it gets out of hand. SO I have always leaned towards high end point and shoots.

I would save up and get a slr. The lens that came with my rebel xt is a pretty good lens. Im sure you wouldnt have any problems taking pics with it. Now that the rebel xti is out the xt is on sale at most places. I think My camera package was around $600-$700. There are some used ones on ebay that might even be cheaper.

Thanks Rev. I was about to ask where to go to find good deals. Since I broke my other digital (non SLR), I'm hoping to be in the market soon for either a Canon Rebel or a Nikon (DS80'ish).

Doh. Missed the 'almost' new. I want a new one (want it to smell like a new car;). I'll search, then start a thread if I can't find what I'm looking for.

Just hit that one:). Got a question, though. Is there a Sandisk 2GB and a Sandisk 2GB Ultra II card, or is a Sandisk 2GB a Sandisk 2GB? They have the Sandisk 2GB on sale at Office Depot right now for $25, so I could save a little on that (to go towards a macro...). The 2GB on sale looks different than the one shown on the bhphotovideo website, but I wasn't sure if it was just different labeling or not... We're only talking $25, so if one is better than the other, I'll get the better one.

is it Xd?

I don't think so. From the bhphotovideo website, they only show what appear to be standard compactflash cards (same as the ad), but the ones from the website say Ultra II or Extreme III, where the ones from the ad don't say anything special... Xd's are shaped different than CompactFlash, right? I'm a little 'technologically challenged' on this stuff (the last gaming system I owned was Nintendo:D), and only use basic memory sticks and CompactFlash cards...

How do you pick a macro lens? What criteria do you look for? I know this is a dummy question, but hey, I'm a dummy;).

Dont worry about that if you get a canon. You cant go wrong with the 100mm canon lens from what I hear. It's my next lens! ;)

I have been thinking of upgrading to a nikon d80. Let me think about it for a few days and I'll throw you a price for my Olympus E-300 with 2 lens and about 2 years left on the warranty.

Jose
