This is my first post aside from meet and greet so hopefully i do this right. I just sank alot of cash into my new tank, lr, ls and all the testing kits skimmer ect... I want to build a refugium but am lacking funds. I have a 10g tank and im sure the most common response is to buy a bigger one... But lets pretend thats not an answer right yet. Im curious if my running the skimmer outside of the fuge rather than in the chamber is advisable? Simply to have more room for the actual refugium chamber. It would still be set up the same in regards to most instructions just will have hoses feeding the water from skimmer to bubble trap. Room under the stand is not the issue. If this is ridicuolous just say so. Any input is welcome.

I definitely agree with the larger the better on refugiums and if a 10g is what you have make the best of it. As long as it is not hard-plumbed in yoou could upgrade in the future easy enough. For my system 3/4 (36" x 18") of a 75g is utilized as the refugium and made the first chamber just large enough to house my skimmer, heater, filter sock and probe holder all in a 12" x 18" space.

Cheers, Todd
