Wow! I’ve done a couple simple procedures (arowana got drop eye), but that’s super cool! I’m surprised they didn’t have some sort of hose/water flow over the fish during the procedure, must’ve been pretty quick!

I don’t speak Spanish but I wonder what all they did to it. An oral anomaly? Maybe it had something stuck in its mouth?

Looks like a tumor, the Spanish bit is basically just saying “The importance of fish/marine veterinarians, pictures before and during a surgery on a clownfish” . My guess what that they just anesthetized the fish, hacked the tumor off, flushed the incision, and put it in some antibiotic water maybe then sent it home. Not sure if you can put stitches in a fish, I’d guess staples would be better but not on a fish as small as a clown

Wow! That's crazy! I have had my clowns for 2 years. I imagine I'll have them for quite a while longer. I think I will be really upset when they die. They both eat out of my hand and definitely have personalities. They beg for food just like my cats and dogs. They thump their tales against the glass when they think they have been too long without eating... needless to say, they are quite large. Depending on the price, I could see having a tumor removed.

Taking care of an animal regardless of the price of that animal is a good thing. A hamster should go to the vet if it needs a vet, even if the vet visit costs more than the animal. An animal is an animal regardless of how much it costs at the store, after all. And clownfish, with proper care and a bit of luck, can live to over a decade.

That might be a tiny water hose in its mouth in a couple of the pictures.

Yeah. I had not noticed how big mine had gotten. We had a meeting at my house to try and finish hashing out the CRC bylaws and everyone was SHOCKED at how big mine were. They all said they had not seen one that big. They look normal size to me now.

You don’t know what you have until you don’t have it. That’s probably like the biggest flex. It’s funny tho Bc you don’t notice everyday despite spending so much time with around or watching ur tank but at the end of the week I mean... explosive growth sometimes, corals and fish alike

I agree to an extent. I think budget has to play a role to some extent. If we are talking about a $200-300 surgery, that I know would save it's life and give it a good quality of life, I'd likely do. But if it's a costly procedure ($1000+) that isn't guaranteed to save the life or give it a better quality life, I may be hesitant.

I do feel like I should call around and see if there are any places even able to offer those services in the area. Would be good to know if an issue ever did come up.

Agreed about the coral growth too. I feel like I have finally hit my stride. @lostinreef brought me some corals to try to doctor up that looked about dead. They all are looking amazing now and it's been 2 weeks. That gives a lot of satisfaction and validation to all the time and effort put into it.

Nope not happening in a million years! That 300$ fish just became a 3000$ fish. lol Look I love my fish, but it would be a cold day in hell when I took my fish to a vet. I guess I look at fish as a commodity not as pets(least not the same way as I do my dogs).


They should have let that freak of nature die. So dang ugly! And this is why man should not be playing god. That fish would probably never have gotten that tumor if it was culled in natural selection like it should have been .

Freaks of nature tend to have many ailments.
