SCA 301 skimmer noise level?

I ueed one of these skimmers when they first came out, they used to be really low cost. Still a good skimmer for the money. Mine was pretry silent especially when I put a silencer on the air line.

They now come with an air silencer. Also the cup is removable not sure if the old ones were or not.

Has anyone ever tried to DIY a DC pump into one of these skimmers? I have been thinking of trying on mine since the pump is the weak link with the 301.

Here is the noise level now. Much better. I do have a trickle going down my emergency but plan to change that when I get my ATO System. Right now with daily top offs the overflow level varies.

I do have 2 large servers about 8 feet away. I'm very happy with how quite the system is. Can't really here it with the cabinet closed although I do have a good amount of ambient noise from the servers.

Sounds quiet to me :)

Did you make that overflow cover?

It's an add-on from SC aquariums. It was $30.

I'm not 100% sure I have everything correct as far as the overflow goes. It seems that the return pipe is too high causing the cover to rest on the return plumbing. I thought about trying to see if the T could be lowered any, possibly by cutting it down a hair but decided against it as I didn't feel like messing it up even more lol.

Honestly not too happy with the fit currently. Seems to fit flush on the back more or less but not sure how much benefit it is giving me the way it currently sits.

Hmm. That’s odd. It’s not like there’s really any play in the return plumbing to move it down. Did you do custom plumbing or is that what they sent you.

The white T part of the return plumbing is what they sent me. Everything else (red PVC) is custom. I think they sent a Durso stand pipe but I chucked it in my spare parts box.

Well I cut the power and removed the white "T" return pipe and I got ready to get water all over the floor. You see I hadn't tested wether or not my sump would overflow in the event my overflow were completely empty. Luckily I had a little room to spare in the sump. Pretty close though.

It seemed I was able to get the "T" a tiny bit lower but not 100% sure. It does seem one side is a tiny bit higher but hard to tell for sure.

So I put everything back and I notice the cover is bowed. Seems I had it on upside down at first. The side that is sticking up now sure seems like it should be the bottom to me but what do I know.

What do you the @TheEngineer ?

Wait... I flipped it over again and now I'm even more confused. This little piece of acrylic is kicking my butt. How can it fit both ways. Lol...

Strange it doesn’t sit flush. I’d think the extra strips around the edges are to sit on the overflow itself to get it above the tee.

You can bring your locline closer to the surface and you won’t drain so much into your sump.
