I got one at 9am this morning and reported it. Sad that it didn’t get address before something like this happened.

New user than the one originally mentioned Terryson89 just sent me the same message on a WTB I just posted. Adding to the list to try and warn people. User was reported. Edit: attached picture of chat for proof.

Surprised, the moderator on R2R did not do anything to this (MOTHER) he has a few different username on here.

This is nuts! That's a very believable scam, with the pics and all. Sheesh!

The R2R moderatorS take this very seriously and they will boot this scammer. Unfortunately he's made multiple accounts, but the mods will get him.

Until then, be smart, be vigilant. I'm not even going to say the whole "if it looks too good to be true....", but I am going to say, if it looks exactly like what you want and the price is unbelievable, well.....

Good luck and report all these scammers to the mods. They can't shut these people down if they don't know about it!

Couple tips to prevent being scammed, when asking for pictures ask the seller to put a piece of paper in the image with your username written on it along with the item you are wanting to buy from them. This will immediately tell you if they have the item and not just some photo off the internet, if they refuse it's a scam.

Also use a credit card for payment, you always have a charge back option to get your money back.

^Good advice!

I'd suggest sticking with PayPal, which would allow you to use any credit card or bank account you have, but still afford you a lot of protection. Not here on R2R, but over the years I've had some issues. PayPal has been largely very helpful and gave me my money back. Just follow their rules.

And to be absolutely clear: It is a violation of R2R's policies for any seller to ask that you pay using the PayPal "Friends and Family" option. Just don't fall for this if you're buying from the R2R marketplace. If any sellers asks you to do this - either right here on R2R or via third party messaging like texting - immediately report the seller.

This has been going on for years as far as I can tell. It's particularly bad if you place a WTB ad. Amazing how many widows on this forum seem to have such great, high end equipment for sale. Also one thing I've noticed over the years of buying and selling stuff online, is the use of the term "kindly." That seems like a telltale of scammers from overseas.

It was a response to a WTB post. I don’t send as F&F anymore but being that it was a third party off the forum and had a great story, I gave in.

I received the message through my regular email notifications but couldn’t find it on my forum message history which I found weird.

The new only thing guaranteed saying should be "Death, Taxes and if you post a WTB anywhere you will be contacted by at least one scammer."

Crazy that you said that.Theguy kept say kindly get back to me. I think it's a Indian thing.

Another one (maybe same one) trying to hit me up again.

Gave generic name and said he got my number from forum named Aquarium forum

I don’t put my number out on forums. Feel free to text him. Apparently he’s got a lot of equipment.

Crazy. I wonder how many people they gotten. Maybe the admins can disable the ability to post on the other forums and send private messages unless a certain criteria is met. Like unless you have 10 post in the welcome forum type think you can not post on any other forums or send private messages.
