Hello everyone!!

I received my first my first Triton ICP test results today. Was hoping for, “greatest water sample we’ve ever seen”, however, it wasn’t so great.
Most of the major elements were in good shape, but I had one result that really threw me.
Says I have high Scandium levels, how to fix, call Triton. I left them an email on the customer service email. But I’m slightly anxious as the test results came back very high.A google search just says it’s a rare earth metal. How it got into my tank I have no idea.
I also have high Lithium levels - possible source from artificial rock or reef ceramics. Chromium levels are dangerously high.
They recommend 6 x15% water changes with a specific salt brand, which is not what I am currently using. I’ve been using probably the most well known and my guess used salt brand out there.
I’m guess that the magnet from the Tunze ATO sitting directly in the water for a few years may be a contributing factor.
I also use those popular Marine Pure bricks in my tank and have for years.
Those are my guesses. Has anyone else been asked to “please contact Triton” regarding a certain element that is elevated?
Thank you in advance for your time and response.

It sounds like you might have a corroding magnet somewhere.

Lithium is not a concern. Ignore it. It is commonly elevated.

I've never heard of the elevated scandium. I don’t know if it is a concern or not.

I’d try using a metal binding agent like a polyfilter or metasorb.

ok good! Randy I’m glad you were able to see this and thank you for your fast response!
My corals are growing and looking great! There is no indication for any of them that something is off in tank!
Thanks again!!

Haven’t had any light bulb breakage. I am supplementing my radions with a couple t5 but they’ve never touched the water.

I wanted to just give an update on this thread. Triton reaches today to say they had run a test on the second sample and determined that it’ll the elevated Scandium level was an anomaly.
There was was no elevated levels.
I want to thank Triton for their exceptional customer service and regular communication!
I also want to thank everyone who reviewed this post with a big shoutout to Cory and Randy for their input and recommendations!!

I was going to say, if your tank looks great then don’t take the results too seriously. A lot of the results on these tests seem to be pretty unreliable.
