Scape rebuild.

So what's the best way to clean up my rock in my tank. Don't wanna kill everything but I do wanna get nuisance algae off the existing rock. I'm breaking down my tank to drill it. Adding 75 lbs of dry rock. Drilling and stacking a new scape. Just want nice clean stuff but would like to keep some of my coralline growing. Ideas? Maybe just a peroxide bath?

I've found hydrogen peroxide helpful on algae but have only used it targeted. I don't know how a bath would affect other life.......it will definitely get rid of the algae - I find you still need a little scrubbing too though

Yah I think I'm going to go that route. Saltwater peroxide scrub. Than ro di rinse.

If it was me, I would get a few turbo snails, or a sea hare, or lawnmower blenny, depending on how much algae you have. If you do a peroxide bath, I would think there would be a lot of little critters would not make it through.

Well I'm going to add some sweet live shelf rock to get my life back in the rock and I'm leaving my sand.

My problem is I started my tank with tap water. So I want to remove all the trouble I caused.

No worries there, I would just do as close to a 100% water change as possible, that will help remove a lot of the stuff in there, skim heavy for awhile, and just have a little bit bigger CUC, IIRC you said you had a purple tang, that's just free food for him to munch on.

Yah I mean besides apistasia the tank has no bad issues. Maybe just a good scrub.

I have also had a really cool piece of lava flow rock in there I'm gonna ditch when I rescape. I just don't know what is in it. Got a side of it that is all crystals. Just worries me so it's gone.
