Hey all you hard core sps'ers! :D

I have a problem! Yes I admit I have a problem. My problem is that I am afraid to FEED MY FISH!! :colors: I am afraid there not getting enough to eat. I put out algae strips for my tang, but take it out after about 20 min because he tears it up and it's all floating about the tank.

How much and how often do you feed your fish?

Do you worry about your water quality?

I run a Deltec AP600 on my 120g, but I am afraid it's not enough...

I put a sheet of Nori in once a week for my fish. Otherwise they can feed off of the rockwork etc.

hahaha. your going to have a heart attack when you hear how much I feed my fish.

They get a nori sheet daily in all tanks.
THan I go around and give a generous amount of prime reef.
Before I go to work I melt a big chunk of sallys marine cuisine or emerald entree.
when i come home for lunch they get a couple of cubes of mysis mixed with cyclopeeze, krill, and emerald entree soaked in selcon, and garlic extreme.
befoer i leave back for work i give another generous helping of prime reef
when i get home more prime reef and some pellets
than another frozen food feeding before i go to bed.

I dont have nitrates, nitrite, or ammonia problems.

In my big tank i have a 220 bare bottom. 30 gallon fuge, geo skimmer, and do weekly 10% water changes on all the tanks.

i also have a 72 bowfront,

Rev, i have 14 fish in a 75gal. I have a lot of sps. I feed a couple of times a day sometimes flakes, sometimes frozen. I have the attitude, what the fish dont eat my corals and clean up crew will. I have about 10 nassarius snails, a few cerith, about 20 turbo snails, 30 hermit crabs, 4 emerald crabs and 4 peps. I feed real heavy 2 times a week when i target feed all my corals. The biggest thing is to do water changes, IMO anyway. I try and do these weekly but usually bi weekly.

Hey Rev... I feed 2 cubes of mysis every other day, and spectrum pellets daily. I also have a "home made" food from a club swap that I feed 1-2 times a week. This club food has everything but the kitchen sink in it. I think I feed OK, but I could stand to feed a little more. My tank is 90 gallons with a basment sump, and way oversized skimmer. I do monthly water changes of 20 gallons, and my water is crystal clear. (In large part I believe, to my 57W UV that runs inline between the sump and tank.)

hey rev,
if your tangs are tearing up the noir do this... before you put it in the clip fold it up into real small squares to where just a little would stick out of the clip.... i do this cuz my tangs will do the same i it is sticking out too far...
i am on the other end of the spectrum from these guys, i feed 1-2 times a week, but i feed real heavy the times i feed.... in my 120 with a 40 gal sump and a octopus nw-200 skimmer, i feed 1 cube of reef plankton, 1 cube if emerald entree 1 cube of marine cuisine, 2 cubes spirila brine, i scoop phyto plankton, 1 capful zooplankton, 1 cube of cycops,7 drops of chromaplex, a pinch of combo vital, and 1 cube of rotifers..... i turn of my return pump for 45 minutes to allow the corals and fish to eat their fill, other than that i let the fish fend for themselves, and nobody is skinny in my tank... aso detecs from my experience are rated very conservitavely, so you should be just fine....

So what do you guys think about using flake food?

flake is good food, but i dont feed it cuz my mandrin and wrasses wont touch it, and if i feed anything else the other fish would rather have the frozen than flake, but if you feed it at other times, to keep the piggies happy then it is a good enriched food....LOL

I feed the system 2 times daily, let me explain...
I feed nori to my tang every other day and either spectrum pellets soaked in selcon/vitachem/h20 food soak(i mix them up) OR some type of frozen once daily in generous amounts. For frozen i have everything from cyclops to silversides and squid i chop up. The tank is a 30 breeder with 8 fish in it AND a 55g sump with 3 fish in it AND a 20g fuge with 2 fish in it. they are lit reverse so im feeding the main tank once daily and the sump and fuge inhabitants get small meals every day as well when their lights are on at night. System is skimmed by a modded coralife ss65 and a seaclown100 with an over abundance of rock and a small deep sandbed, mangrove fuge and a phos reactor.
I use flake food as little as possible, i believe it can cause alge problems even in a well maintained tank due to phosphate. I will go try for a pic of the display.

Heres about the best i can do. lights are 10k.

You mean to me.......:(

LOL! Thanks guys and gals for the info! At the time I was having a small algae outbreak. As weird as this may sound, I started feeding allot more and the algae is gone. I feed a little bit 2-3 times a day now.
