Guys what is this, please god don’t tell
Me it’s dinos. Tank is only about 4 months old, has a little bit of hair, when I stir it it clears it up but comes back over a day or 2, no air bubbles in it....yet

Some areas are darker brown than others, some parts of the sandbed are clean

What are your water parameters, Phosphate, Nitrate, specifically.

Also it looks a lot less aggressive in the pics than in person lol

Phosphate honestly
Not sure I’m embarrassed to admit, nitrate 30ish, I know it’s high just working some things out atm

Not sure if it makes a difference but shaded areas are not affected nor are the rocks...knock on wood

Come and go with light, not growing in shaded areas?

Do you remember going thru a diatom stage about a month or 2 in.

Could just be the diatom cycle.

Good thoughts only it’s not Dino.

Small edit, duh on me, you said not in shaded area

I went through a brief diatom stage, then the last week or two this began, this isn’t the first take I’ve set up but first of this size and am surprised to see it so much

Maybe stir the gravel just enough to make the brown disappear, but not to much it starts clouding the tank. Try it daily for a week and see if it keeps coming back.

And check your parameters like kris mention when you are able. No biggie if you don’t have a Po4 test, but I would recommend one. If not see if you have a LFS that can test for you.

The only thing may make me a bit nervous is second pix where it looks darker and bit snotty

I have a 6 month old tank and about ever 2 months I seem to go through a diatom bloom for about a week or 2. Each time it gets a lil worse. I have no idea what triggers it but it should go away eventually.

Thanks for the heads up, little things like this in the hobby always get me worked up
