Hello everyone. I am obviously new here as this is my first post. I got my CUC today and most seem fine and are reasonably active. However, I ordered 2 scarlet reef hermit crabs and they have not moved at all. I was thinking they could be dead so I went and tried to look really closely in the shell to see if I could see them moving in there. The problem is I can't actually even see a body in the shell. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Can we get a little history on the tank please? Being that you're just adding your clean up crew i'm guessing its a fairly new tank. What are your parameters, how long has the tank been running, how was it cycled, and what source water are you using? Tap, RODI, water from local fish store?
We'll get ya taken care of ;)

So the tank is a 32 G Biocube. The tank has been running around 3 weeks. It was cycled with dry rock using Bio Spira and Dr Tim's Ammonium Chloride following Dr Tim's guide. It has been able to get rid of 2 ppm ammonia (0 ammonia and 0 nitrite) within 24 hours for about a week. This is the point at which the guide said that the tank was cycled. Current parameters: 0 ppm Ammonia, 0 ppm nitrite, 20 ppm nitrate, 1.025 salinity, temp 77.7. Tank water is RODI. CUC was ordered online.

Were they alive when you got them and then they died, or are you thinking they died in transit? Possible it could have just been a fluke thing.

I never saw them move or even saw the crab. I only have ever seen the shells and the bag labeled 2 Scarlet Hermit Crabs. I guess that is what I find confusing. I would think I would be able to see their bodies inside the shells, but I can't.
