School of gobies?

Green banded goby. Very peaceful and have heard they can school, however, they eat pods and lots of them. Consider putting in a fuge before getting a school of them. I assume a school of three would surpass having a Mandarin in a tank.

I have a 20 gallon sump with a fuge but the ones at my LFS eat frozen foods as well.

Not necessarily.
I've bought Trimma Tevegae (stunning!) for around 30-40 bucks when they came around; generally late winter to early spring.
These aren't really high demand fish as they're more appropriate for small nano displays

So when it comes to a partially stocked 29 gallon tank with a 20 gallon sump, how many gobies is too many? I am also planning on a possible Helfrichi firefish

They are small fish with a very tiny bioload. Mixing 20 or so trimma and eviota gobies would be fine in a 29g with room to spare.

They aren't seasonal, they may not be available every week, but they are available year-round.

When I get back from high school, my tank is going to be full of gobies because my dad LOVES them

I added 19 green-banded gobies to my 150g SPS tank a few years ago. Green-banded gobies are surprisingly hardy - they outlived all the other teeny gobies I added around the same time (Trimmas, masked, etc.) Great fish. They hop all around the rockwork and are interesting. They bicker and squabble a little bit sometimes, but I haven't seen anything very brutal. Usually one will just move its perch.

I have kept 3 yellow clown Gobies but my understanding is that more than one green goby will fight unless mated in a small tank. I always just kept one.
