A lfs store where I live had a 400 gallon display with many yellow tangs. It's awesome.

I've had as many as 14 tangs in a 300g. There have been times though when I've had to remove. So just need to watch their behavior

I have 5 tangs in my tank, 280 gal. , 2 are yellow tangs a powder brown, a tomini and a kole no aggression. I think I could get a couple more yellows. Size of tank is important for tangs 60" long is minimum 72" or longer is better, they need lots of room to swim but they also need places to hide. Keep them well fed a hungry fish is more aggressive.

I hate to report but your tank is too small for this to work long term. Stick with one and potentially some other tangs too - make sure to socially acclimate them!

I had a trio that had been together for 2 years at the fish store display's 200. I moved them to my 400 and they killed each other off.

This will be the outcome 99% of the time in all but the largest of aquariums, even though they were "fine together" at a store or vendor facility temporarily. Once moved fishes reestablish territories in their new environment.

With anything there are always a lot of variables that would make keeping schools of tangs difficult. Here's my two cents for what it's worth..

- Add multiples (ideally in odd numbers)
- Add when smaller and all at once.
- Provide high amounts of feeding 4-6 times per day. Frozen, seaweed, dry food, powder, etc.
- Strong Heavy Currents (pumps, powerheads, etc.)

The two biggest I've found to keep aggression down is keeping them fat and happy while also giving them strong flow in the aquarium to continuously swim through and get exercise. If they're busy eating and swimming there's little to no time for fighting.

Not saying these are guarantees on keeping schools of tangs but will at least give you a better fighting chance. Good luck regardless!

Wow...alot of great infos....i am debating.
@stunreefer . I saw a few videos of tanks on utube, that's what got me thinking.
If I do pull a trigger, I will get at least 5 same size (small ~1-1 1/2") and they r all in same time...
I love to feed my fish, that's the only food source for my corals...and I heard if they r fed mainly vegies, less aggressive they ll be...

simply not true. a lfs in my area has had 3 in a 45 for 15 years. My experience is that groups will work if added at the same time.
