What is reef keeping about for you? Is it the science or the aesthetics?

For me it is about the science. I have everything in a dedicated room and focus on the success and thriving of the tank(s). My setups are certainly not something you'd see in a living room. It isn't a showpiece.

What about you?

Not mutually exclusive for me. Nature is art.

I honestly go for both with my current system. But when I go bigger and add things like a frag tank or a separate refugium those will be in a dedicated room and be 100% science based as it will be my area.

I enjoy the science behind it all especially figuring things out and if it was solely up to me it would be a much more ridged setup and not look as pleasing to the eye (I probably would have open style cabinets, cords everywhere etc.). But to keep the wife happy everything is presentable in the living room.

Im there to bring nature into my home.
I have tones of boxes of nature
From salt to fresh to dessert to jungle i love them all

My first tank was all about learning the science. Something goes wrong, understand why then fix it. It was also done on a budget, so hob fuge, canister filter, so on. I call it my Frankenstein, as it looks like a middle school science experiment.
Fast forward to the new 120 we're currently building. It is not on a budget and looks totally different. The science is there, but the artistic aspect is front and center.
