Scolly tissue recession

This war paint has been receding slowly since it came into my tank. I tried different lighting and flow combinations and non worked. Within the tank one other plate coral is also receding. The rest are fine. Any help is appreciated.

Water parameter in ppm:
Nitrite: 0.5
Nitrate: 10
Mg: 1270
Ca: 380
PO4: not detectable

your tank looks fairly new.. how old is it? I find scolys can be very sensitive to new tanks. You should always have some PO4 detectable.. .03 is recommended target.. So scoly is most likely slowly dying away tbh.

Yes it's one of the hitchikers. I forgot the name but my LFS said it's a good hitchiker but let's not rule this out for now.

Yeah it probably too early to put scolly in. The tank is 2 months old at the moment.

focus on your water chemistry.. are you adding any additives? whats your tank size and equipment etc..

the tissue recession extends well beyond what ever the polyps are. more than likely water issue here.

Below, you have cloves polyps developing which may be upsetting the scoly. Assure moderate light and water flow and that salinity-phos-ph-nitrate are not elevated. Feed 2-3 x per week. Mine is fed mysis shrimp. Reef roid type food not an adequate meal and raises Phosphate

Yes definitely needs some food. You may need to baby it while feeding until it's strength and feeding response return. Mysis shrimp.

what tank temperature do you run? I’ve found my scoly’s do better in 76-77 range vs 78-80

As others have said, unstable new tank still with nitrites. PO4 needs to come up and keep water stable. What has your alkalinity been over these 2 months?

I am putting it on the diet of frozen food 3 days per week, but I am not sure if it could cause overfeeding. Anyway things didnt get better when I feed it like that.

It is receding on just the polyps side. I run my tank on 24-25C so that's around 76F.

Feeding should increase PO4. Foods like Reef Roids will increase po4 fairly quick

I agree with vetteguy. Feeding should raise them slow and steady. With NeoPhos you have risk of overshooting the level which could stress the coral.

That’s one nice scoly - congrats!!! I have a Superman scoly, although it lost some blues, that went thru a hectic time with the other tank. Its flesh receded as well but recovered nicely on the current tank. I don’t spot feed mine, it healed on its own.

What I’ve found: it hates high flow and strong lights! Also, as others mentioned, it likes cooler temps. Assume Alk/CA are stable, it should recover on its own, don’t change water params drastically. You do want to have detectable PO4, btw.
