Dont know much about these guys but it was on sale so figured i would give it a shot as i slowly dip my toes into corals. How does it look? Anything special i need to know? Should i spot feed or would broadcast feeding be enough?

Definitely target feed these guys, especially larger foods like pellets and mysis shrimp. IMO they actually need feeding for long term survival unlike most corals. Other than that keep everything nice and stable and it should do great.
Scolys are pretty expensive for someone just getting into corals lol!

Looks receded a little. Low flow and light. I bury it up to the flesh. Target fish they look to eat.

It was 50% off because it had been at the store for awhile so for $25 i figured what the heck

Great price! I really like the dark colors on it, normally scolys are way more expensive. That’s a steal !

Yeah they puff up some from it's current state, I have mine I'm med light and flow and target feed it 2ce a week. He also catches food on occasion when I feed the fish. Just make sure to keep water quality up and target feed him.

Mine is low light and flow where its at now so i guess if i dont see it improve a little then ill try moving it a little.

Do you have any shrimp like cleaner or peppermints? I wouldn’t recommend pellets if you do because the moment you leave and think everything is cool, they often steal the food from the scoly and they will rip the poor thing’s mouth right open. Don’t spot feed anything too big or too much that it can’t close it’s mouth over (feed at night when it’s wide open). I feed mine, as well as my acans and other LPS some finely chopped Rod’s Coral Blend, Oyster Feast and some Reef Roids 2-3x a week.

Peppermints murdered my prized superman. I still have a few others, but this was my baby.

Thanks for the headsup no i dont have any shrimp other than a pistol burrowed on the other side of the tank at the moment, but some cleaners are on my stocking list going forward so i will keep that in mind. I target fed the other day just some of the frozen food i usually drop in for my fish and it took it well so i will continue to do that every other day or so until i get some coral food and possibly something more catered to target feeding corals such as this guy. If you had to pick reef roids or reef chili? I dont have much in there at the moment a frag a zoas a small colony of zoas and the scoly, but numbers will increase of the next month or two.

Most others covered it. I will say these guys are really cool to see eat after lights out. They should be really puffy during day once settled, so if not, probably need less flow on them. Nice score!!! $25 is amazing deal! I am not sure anyone could of passed that up. I thought mine was a steal at $60 when I got it. It was, but I do not have good pics of it. Red, purple with light green (mint) lines.

Good luck with your guy. They are pretty hardy if you have good water stability.

I use Reef Roids AND Reef Chili!

Do you mix them both when you feed? And do you target feed or broadcast?
Mix both with Oyster Feast and Rod’s Food coral blend. Spot feed just a tiny bit!

I will broadcast to my zoanthids and goniopora a couple times a week but during the lights on period.

Scolys eat at night.

A sped up video of a Scoly being fed our TDO Chroma BOOST. You can easily see that it likes it.

Sheesh i havent seen mine do anything like that lol. I did feed it a bit of frozen food yesterday and it took it in just fine, but it certainly didnt react the way the one in the video did.

We are running free shipping right now on TDO. http://apbreed.com/product_tdo_chroma_boost.php I would suggest TDO Chroma BOOST Small for target feeding LPS corals, etc. You can even crush the granules a bit to make it a smaller particle size. Your fish will also eat it. A 3oz. package is only $8 and has a 1 year shelf-life in the fridge.

Let me know if you have any questions.
