Why is my Scolymia receding? I didn't notice that it looks this way at the store. But it has looked pretty much the same for more than a week. I am feeding every couple of days. Saw a dramatic feeding response two feedings ago. It may be positioned in too much flow? It may also be that we brought 3 coral home that day and I dipped them all in the same container. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

They like low to medium flow and usually placed on the sand. Do you what type of flow it is in ?

Flow is medium to high. Placement is just above the sandbed on a rock ledge. It was my understanding that, in the wild, they were found on rockwork. Not on the sand bed.

I suggest stop any attempts at feeding it if you haven't already, that can actually be more stressful than helpful in a new tank, and especially in its current condition.

Leaving it alone is also probably best too until it recovers more.
(as in don't move it around daily trying to find the right spot)

Was any skeleton showing at all when you bought it?

As dsc mentioned, your water is pretty clean, and salinity is borderline low in my experience with my scoly.

Still hope! Beautiful colors. I hope it recovers.

If it did show before it wasn't as noticable to me. I will be going back this weekend to get suggestions from where it was purchased. Are you and DSC saying that the water may be too clean of nitrates and phosphates? If so, how should they be increased? And at what levels have you had success?

. 05 to . 1 is considered good for phosphates and 5 to 10 on nitrates should be a good target zone.
