Scoly is dying?

Hi everyone! Hope you’re doing great

My bleeding apple scoly recently developed a dark ring around its mouth. Is it a bad sign that the coral is dying?

My test kits got delayed and still haven’t arrived so I don’t really know what the parameters are for calcium magnesium and alkalinity. My tank only holds 20 gallon and I do water change every 4-5 days so I’m really confident with those parameters. However, my PH is sitting at 8.2, salinity is 34ppt and 24 degrees for temperature.

Here is a pic of it that I took 2 days ago and its most recent pic. It seems like the scoly is losing colour. It’s placed in my scoly garden and the other scolys are still doing really well.

Hopefully someone can help me to save this scoly. It is the first coral I’ve ever had and would be really upset if it dies. Thank you and happy reefing!

What intensity? I would get it shaded to start with! That could give it some relief.

It's running at 40% intensity. My tank is the Waterbox cube 20 with 16" deep. I just dipped the coral and moved it to a lower light intensity area. Hopefully it would get better

Put it in the shade and try feeding it once a week. Look like its stressed from light

I just moved it to the sides of the tank. Usually I feed it twice a week. Hopefully it will get better soon. Thank you for your advice

It runs 11 hours a day (starts from 11am til 10pm) at 40%. Is it too much light for a 20g reef tank?

11hrs is a long period to run them unless you have a very slow ramp up/down.

Meant to add, I would watch things now that you’ve moved the coral before changing photoperiod. Best to make slow/methodical changes.

Scoly are low light corals so its ok to put in the shade. It wont get light shock from bright light to low light.

I'm using the exact same template as Eat Sleep Reef (a YouTuber) with a lower intensity (my xr15 is running at 40%). I just moved it to the shade and hopefully it will get better
