Hey guys!
Bit of a weird one here, I've had a small scolymia for a year or so, got it looking rough and its coloured back up nice and now is showing some stripes of yellow also
Anyway, been sorting the reef out today and I saw the most bizarre thing! around the inner ring of my scolymia were some white dots, at first I thought it was just the tentacles since they were in that fold of flesh but it didn't look quite right so I took a closer look. they were small white balls that looked very much like eggs, they were coming out from the fold of skin, sitting on the inner rim for some time and then they would detach and float away in the flow... I've taken a photo but by the time I got my phone from the other room there was only 3-4 left.
What did I just see, was it eggs from the scolymia? if so do you think they will be fertile? I only have one scolymia so I wonder if they are self-fertile?
I'm quite excited to see if I get any baby scolymia popping up in the next 6m or so if they are what I think they are.. i have no other egg layers like snails etc in that tank and they really looked like they were rolling out from inside the scolymia itself so i have no idea what else it could be!
Has anyone else seen this before?
Kind regards, Matt
