Hi,

Ive had this scoly for around 1 week now… It seems to be slightly open/showing some kind of tentacles around the mouth. I’ve attached a few pictures as it’s more on the overlap than mouth. I’m really unsure what’s going on here like it might be perfectly happy as far as I know haha

anyone know what’s going on and if I can do anything to help it if necessary? I’ve tried feeding but I think it made it worse compared to yesterday…

Tentacles around the mouth are part of all scolymia and how they capture food. What have you tried to feed it? Wait until lights are out for a few hours and you should see a lot more tentacles (looks like a totally different coral). When they are out, squirt mysis shrimp onto the tentacles (not the mouth) for it to capture and eat. Many folks find regular (twice a week) feedings important in keeping scoly’s healthy.

I’ve tried feeding the fella but he didn’t seem too receptive… I’ll give it ago at night and see if I get a better response :) thank you

Update: I fed a few mysis shrimp at which he ate some but not all. However, it seems like he’s got his mouth open but not in a feeding response way… He looks amazing in the morning but looks like this mid day which is still fairly plump and nice but just with his mouth open

any recommendation / advice possibly?
Thank you :)

I went to my local supermarket, bought 4 frozen shimp (for under a buck) and i cut off a small piece once a week and feed it. it is a happy little scoly.

totally normal, I would think its a sign of a healthy scoly as its showing its feeders.

Every time I see feeders I get happy because it shows the coral is happy and is trying to feed from the water column,

I feed my scoly reef roids mixed with reef frenzy, and sometimes mixed with mysis shrimp if I have. all together mixed with a bit of tank water to make a nice pasty consistency
