In my "Scoly Garden," I have at least 10 Scolys on my sandbed. About two weeks ago, I noticed that one scoly was touching another, skelton and flesh. At the spot where the were touching, they appeared to be happier. More meaty and fully inflated. I have left them like this for two weeks and they appear to be the two healthiest scolys in my LPS tank. I am tempted to move all of them together after seeing this. Now here is the question: Do Scoly have a symbiotic relationship in the wild when they do not have the same color patterns? Ones a Reverse Bleeding Apple and one a Warpaint.(I realize they are in the same Genus) Do they get a "comfort" in being in close proximity with others? I have been in the hobby a long time and never notice a reaction like this with any other coral.

Yours thought and opinion are appreciated!

Cole

This is a really bad phone pic but it is the yellow and red scoly and the bleeding apple.

When I had mine, I have them close to each other, never realized they are not supposed to touch. I had some touch for a long time and saw no damage.

I agree. Never saw an issue until I was reading on another forum and the post was stating that it inhibited them from eating and taking in nutrition properly.

While scuba diving I always see them in groupes of 5+ Some touching eachother and others not. Obviously they cant move but from what I've seen they dont mind having no personal space :)

I believe I read they actually are capable of some movement. Whether that's accurate, I don't know.

None of my Scolys are touching other Scolys, but they are fine with Acan Lords and Bowerbanki. The chalices will put the hurt on the acans if they grow too close together. I learned my lesson with Acan Echinata and don't keep them anymore, they kill anything close.
