Hi everyone,

I’ve been looking to get a 3rd fish for my 20g IM peninsula tank (2 clowns right now) and was at the LFS speaking with an employee on what he recommended. Nothing he was suggesting really caught my eye until he suggested a scooter blenny, which I’d love to get one but didn’t think I had a large enough tank for the pod only diet. He then proceeded to put frozen mysis in the tank and the scooter blenny went crazy for it. Can I keep a scooter blenny in a 20 gal if it accepts frozen food? Can it survive off only frozen food or always need some amount of pods? I have a good amount of pods in my tank at the moment and also could turn the second compartment in the back of the tank into a refugium for pods. I also don’t mind buying pods occasionally to replenish my system, but also don’t want to be buying them every week. I’m wondering if anyone’s had success with a scooter blenny that accepts frozen food in a small tank or if anyone has made their back compartment of an IM 20 into a refugium.

Thank you

Not me... but both my blennies loved & love frozen food. Let's bump this and see what others say... and let's see those pics!

As long as you make sure it has food, then yeah. I've kept a dragonet in a 10 gallon, supplementing by feeding baby brine shrimp throughout the day via a PaulB feeder. Feed it more if it gets skinnier, and supplementing with pods isn't a bad idea.

If it eats frozen then it don't really need pods. I kept a mandarin in a 40 gallons bare bottom for many years until I took down the tank. It eats frozen as well as any other fish in the tank and was super fat.
