I hear that male Scott's fairy wrasses tend to lose color if not kept with a female...but I've never, that I know of, seen a photo of one that has undergone this color loss and am very interested to know what they end up looking like. Which colors, exactly, are dulled or lost?

I'm trying to decide between the Vanuatu exquisite or the Scott's for my 100g stock list.

It did to mine Scotts...........had a Aussie Scott beautiful in color but three months in he lost his red oval spot first following by the yellow lines.
He just was a ugly expensive wrasse after 5 months, yes I said WAS cause he took a jump right before Christmas and I didn't care a bit about it.

The one I had never lost his color. He stayed vividly colored for two years. He committed suicide by repeatedly banging his head on my glass cover.

Correct, yes.

They almost always lose the red spot on their sides, at a minimum. The other colors can fade out too, and they end up quite drab (but still somewhat multi-colored).

If you're mixing wrasses at all, just skip it and go with the exquiste.

Don't know if I'm mixing wrasses or not, yet. When I got my Bartlett's anthias pair my stocking plan opened way up (I was originally planning on a pictilis anthias school) I appreciate all the replies! I do believe I'll go with the exquisite. :)
