Scratched glass

I was taking my lid off my aquarium today and it hit into the front of my tank leaving a 5 inch scratch. I tried to buff it out but it didn’t work. It’s deep enough where it catches my fingernail. Anyone have any ideas of how to fix it. It is very noticeable and I want to get rid of it asap. I tried to take a pic but the camera would not focus on it.

Hey at least it's on the outside so it won't be the first place algae grows like inside scratches. Glass can be tough to get scratches out. I tried once years ago but it looked worse than just the scratch when I was done.

Cerium oxide is designed for glass polishing. Just be careful not to make it worse. Too much in one spot will create optical distortion that may look worse than the original scratch

Not powerless

Making it go away is dangerous and a lot of work

I started sanding scratches out of a tank. Noxious endeavor. Cerium oxide is only the last step of 12 steps

Ended up replacing it with an acrylic tank. Which if it gets scratched is easier to buff out

lol yeah pretty much the same for me. I made the same mistake with a magnet scrapper and left a scratch that was 5 inches long. But as long as you don’t crouch down looking at the tank you won’t see it
