Scratches in AIO Sump/Overflow wall

I picked up a used Innovative Marine Nuvo/Fusion/Nano 20 gallon tank and I’ve been cleaning it out. In my inexperience with acrylic overflow walls, I used a Seachem cleaning tool with a razor blade and put a few scratches in the sump/overflow wall.

I was using some 1500 grit wet/dry sandpaper to clean some residue off the glass and thought I’d give it a try on the sump/overflow wall too which made things slightly worse.

Does anyone have experience polishing black acrylic and whether a product like Novus would do the trick? I’d like to get as much of the scratches out as possible. It doesn’t look too bad with water filled up, but I don’t want to take the chance that my lighting will make it show once I start cycling.

Mine was scratched a bit as well. GSP ended up covering it though.

I was not able to find any information at all on using Novus or anything else to clean BLACK Plastic/Acrylic. I decided to do some proof of concept and investigation myself and documented it here:

Thanks for posting this. I picked up a used 25 gallon lagoon. I’m planning on cutting an emergency overflow into the acrylic wall like they have on the newer tanks. I was looking for information on how to polish the edge after I cut it. This is exactly what I needed

This is the stage I’m at now. Still need to polish it up but I’m super happy with how it’s going so far.

Had a chance this weekend to finish this little project up. Super happy with how it turned out. I probably wouldn’t even have attempted it if I didn’t come across this thread.

I did one more polish after this picture it’s looks like new again.

You should definitely start a build thread on this tank, and even document the process of cutting the baffle wall. I’m so happy to hear that my experience helped you. Maybe yours can help someone else too! Shows what a little elbow grease can do to an ‘old’ tank. Amazing job again, best of luck in your reefing journey!
