For large 72” tanks. I know I could DIY. I also know about Clearviewlids.com.

Are there any other options in between? Better an DIY, maybe a little less $ than clearviewlids?

Went the DIY rout on my 35 cube. Came out nice.
Went with the DD Jump guard on my Red Sea 425XL.
I must say I’m impressed with it. As a side note I was leery of the black mesh that comes with the DD kit. But ultimately I prefer the black mesh. It’s less noticeable and dosnt add a glare to the top of the tank when looking at it from a slight distance.

Just make it! I know you mentioned DIY, but you can make it look just as nice as anything that you would buy, and you get to customize it. I made three sections for my 80in tank and it's great not having to take the whole thing off just to access a certain spot.

I would caution against DIY if you're not a very handy person. I did the Red Sea DIY kit, trying to save money, and it looks like junk. If you are a handy person, have tools on hand, can measure twice cut once than maybe a DIY would work. I am not and it did not. I am currently saving up for a clearview lid. I keep getting close, but then corals go on sale so I buy those instead... maybe next month.

I'm pretty happy with DD Jump guard.
On my 72" tank I bought 2 of the 48" kits ( pro kit?) so I have to separate panels.
Plus I used the center stiffener on both.

I had DIY screen tops that I made from materials used to make window screens for the frame and 1/4" netting from BRS for the screen itself. They look good, especially on a framed tank (rimless, not so great). However when I took the plunge and bought acrylic lids I was very glad I did. I replaced the white netting with black and would highly recommend doing that.
