Hello, I was going to build a screen to cover my tank today and I was wondering what are the ideal dimension to prevent fish from jumping out and it increase light penetration. I originally purchased 1/16 inch fiberglass screening but I could tell my light on the bottom of my tank was decreased. What would be the best type of screening to get?

Typically i wouldnt go with wire mesh or.chicken wire stay away from the metals if possible. Maybe an acrylic lid ? Just make sure it doesnt interupt.ur flow on top of water

Fiberglass is not really a metal. I don't want metal screening. And I have acrylic on my smaller tank and it is a pain. I was wondering what a good dimension would be for the squares.

I used tule and everything seems to be fine on my lid. The holes are still pretty small compared to chicken wire but all corals in the bottom still seem to be happy!

I used 1/4" screen (clear) from BRS. Works great for me.

You can get everything you need at HD. Window screen frame, corners, spline and clear burd netting (green house area).

I used 1/2" bird netting and window screen w/ spline as well for my tops. Very easy to DIY. Purchased everything at Lowes. I actually staggered one layer of netting on top of another to make small 1/4" diamonds....

I have a couple 60g frag tanks and after a year of good luck one of my black ice clown decided to parachute to the floor. What is the largest size of the clear screen where it will keep most medium sized fish from pulling hudini?

I have the egg crate on my tank. I have three wrasses and three dart fish. nothing has gotten through. the key is aggression. fish are less likely to jump in a peaceful tank. I have dimmable led's and still run my lights at 50%. my coral is doing fine.

I think you're right, but........it only takes one time to lose one and if you have wrasses it's just a matter of time. I have screens and lost a yellow fin flasher that jumped out when I removed the screen for maintainence. I would never keep wrasses without 1/4" netting.

I lost a yellow coris the same way. but it's not the cover when the fish jumps when the cover is removed. I agree the brs screen is the best, but I don't have a sump, and with my hob skimmer it would be harder to fit a screen.
