Hey! I was wondering if it would it cause any negative effects if i was to scrub some algae off the rocks in my tank? It wouldn't be during a water change so the particles would float through the water until filtered out. If it's just best to keep it during water changes so It can be siphoned out then i'll just wait. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

I think you would run the risk of spreading it even further by doing that. Your best bet it to remove individual rocks to a 5g bucket or other suitable container filled with tank water, scrubbing them there, rinsing in another bucket and the returning them to the tank.

What kind of algae? Remember that not all are bad!

Thanks! It's just green algea. New tank uglies basically. It's not that bad but just ugly lol

I'd suggest allowing to to grow. Especially as a new tank, it is just a natural part of the cycle. Down the road, many snails and other critters will love it. I have a urchin that leaves a cleanly scrubbed trail every night.

Thanks! I have a decent cuc. A bunch of blue legged hermits, one scarlet, and a bunch of snails. They did an amazing job on my diatoms but not as good with the green algae.

Urchins work wonders! Plus the ones that pick up shells and rocks to ‘hide’ are fun to watch!

If you have mechanical filtration (filter socks or equivalent), go for it.
