Ik,These skimmers have a bad reputation but my lfs was having a sale and I got if for $30 brand new . If had it set up for a week now and I was wondering if anyone upgraded the pump because the maxi jet is super noisy .

Take it out and clean it. Sometimes it just needs a cleaning and reassembly.

If not research and get a new pump. With what u saved you can get a decent one.

I don't think the seaclones are bad, just need some tlc and maintenance. Personally I use a coralife skimmer, it's not high end and people would say there's better out there, but I got it for a steal. Once I broke in and I adjusted so.e settings, it works fine and produces acceptable skim.

So I took it apart and cleaned it. Found the plastic propellers broke, I plugged it back it and it works the same . Ive done research on upgrading but all I can find is in sump upgrades .

What type of pump does it run on? A regular maxijet?

If it was new, take it back. Maxijet impellers are not expensive, but should work for longer than a week.

A skimmer is just a chamber that has a pump. Only things that makes one better is dwell time in the chamber and having a needle wheel impeller creating a finer bubble to scrub the water in the chamber. The only thing that stinks about the Seaclone is you can not find a needle wheel impeller for a Maxijet 1200 or the MJ1200. They are the same thing, Just Cobalt took the blue prints and took the name and made them cheaper.
$30 is a good price. They used to sell for $110. I got mine from a buddy for free. 1 month later after understanding quality is important for a skimmer. Bought the Reef Octopus BH1000 HOB and turned my Seaclone that was sitting around in the closet for over a year into a Chaeto Reactor. Way better use for it and the difference between the two skimmers with productivity. The BH1000 is 10 times better and would suggest looking into that. Reason being the motor for the Seaclone is in the water column and can fluctuate the tanks temp.

Any idea how the impeller broke?
If you look online there is some DIY projects that show you how to cut up a bioball and glue it to the impeller or use fishing line to help chop the air up finer to help get a better skim. I figure it can not hurt to try it since the impeller is broken. You can always get a new impeller since it is broken for like $5.

The purple “paddles” on the impeller fell off and I have no idea how they fell off .
