Sea cucumber

i would like some facts on sea cucumbers...
are they beneficial to my tank in anyway?oh:

yeah typically they are fantastic cleaners of the sand! I have a large pink and black one, not sure of the name and she keeps my sand looking great!

I think they are beneficial. I have 2 of them in my Tank. They do a great job of keeping my sand clean. So in that aspect I like them.

well i got a weird purple one that open these feather duster like tentacles and it never moves, lol ever...
how do they clean the sand?

i was going to get one and then i heard that they were some what bad for the tank. Well not exactly bad but something as if they were were to get stressed they would expel toxins in to the water and could really hurt the tank. I don't know how much truth their is in this but it is what i heard.

I had one that basically exploded after a day. Tore in half from what looked like a callused area. I've hear about how toxic they can be to a system when stressed or when dying so took him out. Most likely won't ever do another one. As far as the purple feather duster one - can you post photos? I'm no expert but that sounds a bit.. not right?

What happens is that they turn their insides out and it is nasty tasting. This is to keep predators from eating them. In our closed systems, there is no way to clean the water, unless we see it happen and change water right away, to dilute the expulsion.

i had one until he decided to climb into my mp10 and get chopped up i did water change right away and everything turned out fine .. but anyway yeah there great at cleaning the sandbed

I have no experience with these things but I have heard that they are great for the sand beds.Just word of mouth though......

I have a black and grey one. They are awesome at cleaning the sand. You know when he has been doing his job because you will see little sand poops.

I have this one in my tank and all it does is eat and poop and poop alot but most of the poop is just sand he is pretty kool

now im thinkin he isnt a sea cucumber at all, because he doesnt look much like the others.. any ideas what it is?

it looks like both, the sea apple and spiny sea cucumber but i didnt see any SSC's with tentacles like that..

I have a pink/yellow spiny one. He sifts nothing! He sits on top of a powerhead and gets whatever food passes by. He refuses to stay in the sand. The pics above are a spiny cucumber. Same body as mine, just different color.
