I told the guys at the lfs that i needed a yellow or kole tang for algae and they didnt have em so i asked a lady if the mimic tang would take care of algae hair and algae in general and she said "yes they'll take care of algae" while the other 2 guys said it wouldn't, so one of the guys mentioned the sea hare(because they eat hair algae and algae in general) and i literally asked if they are poisonous or venomous and this guy said it isn't, when i went in my car i looked up its care and it said "expert only" because their ink can kill some fish, i paid $26 for it and now if i wanna return it is 50% off, its 4" big, its been in the bag for a day now still alive but idk wat to do with it, should i keep it or return it? Im not an expert yet, any advice from people who have kept em? If i run lots of carbon in 2 multi media reactors/ reef octo skimmer-would that take care of it? Is a 75 gallon tank-1 month established, once the algae is gone can they survive on food uneaten by the fish? Or do they NEED algae?

What kind of sea hare? Do you have a picture?

They are incredible at cleaning a tank, but I have learned (from personal experience, and on R2R) that their life spans maxes-out in captivity at about a year. Obviously, it is hard to tell how old it is when you get it, but a large one like yours is likely older. That having been said, I have had two or three die in the tank and nothing bad came of it. I simply removed them.

I also had one die in my tank (112g 10yr old reef) and never found it to remove it. No I'll effects for me

Commonly sold are dollabella (california) an they are lawnmowers, but they soon stop working and just hang out and one day no movement. Ive bought them and used them and returned to LFS for 1/2 credit and worth the $15 loss.

They're algae-eaters, not scavengers. Better to pass them on to the next person who needs algae removal once they run out of food, than try to keep them alive on something else.

Also, the R-word you called that guy is a slur.
