Is there anyway to feed and keep a sea hare... I purchased one a week ago to clean algae from my tanks, and he did great. I've grown a little attached to my cute sea bunny, and was wondering if there was anyway to keep one? Don't want to hurt him, but also don't trust some of the dumb dumb customers at the LFS that might kill him.

If anyone in the central mass area needs a sea Hare to clean up their tank let me know... will be free to a good home if I can't keep him.

Same thing happened to me. What I do is keep a rack with algae to the side. It looks horrible but it grows hair algae like crazy and the sea hare has enough to eat but eventually you will have to give him away. They do such a great job that most die of starvation. I just post in local forum and usually it goes from home to home helping the reefers and their algae problems.

The love caulerpa if you have a refugium to grow it in. They should also eat nori. They are the best cleaners available but unfortunately are hard to sustain. I have about 3000 gallons and would move mine from tank to tank. Sadly he got stuck to a powerhead even though I had it wrapped in screen. He was literally the size of a small bunny. Weighed 1.5 pounds at his burial...poor Lil guy

If you have a local forum, that's a great place to get donations of free macros. I would avoid chaeto(difficult to digest) but caulerpa Mexicana is a delicacy

I feed my sea hare Julian Sprung's Sea Veggies, Green Seaweed. I slice up a square then put it at the bottom of the glass, near the sand with a veggie clip. Then I put my sea hare by the seaweed. If you don't put him by it he will take too long to find it and most of it will get eaten by cleanup crew

How often do you feed the seaweed? Everyday? Every other?

*takes notes*

OP, I hope you'll keep up posted on your little cutie. :)

Both of you (and anyone else with sea hares); I'd love to see photos of your widdle marine bunnies-- they're so cute!
