So my lfs has a sea hare in stock but I don't know which ones are safe. I've looked online and people say different things. This guy looks like a black thorny potato.... Some people say that often temperate species come into the hobby and those die slowly I don't want that to happen so does anyone know which sea hares can be kept at tropical reef temperatures

If you can find out where it was collected that could help determine it's temperature needs.

They also consume a ton of algae, and slowly dying from starvation is pretty common with them too, as they eat all the algae in the tank.

I'm aware... Wasn't asking for this kind of information but thanks for the input

Asking about which species are tropical and will live in warm waters... I've read conflicting information some people say blue spots will some say they won't some say spotted sea hares are fine others say they're not so idk what to believe

It depends on where they were collected. I have had blue spotted seahares come in from the Philippines, which is entirely tropical, so if collected from there if would be fine, if it was collected from somewhere else it could be tropical or subtropical.

How would I know though lol the lfs doesn't seem to know either
There are no physical characteristics that would indicate one way or another. Since the majority of livestock that makes it's way into the trade is from the tropics, chances are it is tropical, but without knowing country of origin, there is no sure-fire way to know.

Which is better the blue spot fuzzy ones or the brown smooth ones with the bulb on their backs?
