sea hare ???

have a major h/a out break in my Frag tank..Dont feel like breaking it down and power warshing all the racks, so thinking of buying a sea hare..

Ive read alot about them, but my main concern is the toxins they might relese..Ive read several diffrent articals on them and alot of conflicting info..

anyone have first hand experiance with them?
dieing?
toxins?
tank crash ????

I know they will starve fast, and have new homes for him threw local club to be passed around

I tried two when battling hair algae and they both died on me. I got the first one out but not the second one and never had any issues with the toxins or even N and P rising for that matter.

We use them in our systems. Never had any trouble even if they died on us. They work great too.

I had one that did great but then it met an untimely death when it tried to clean the powerhead. No problems with toxins when it died. It did an awesome job. I got 2 replacements and they didn't do very well and died. Now that I have trigger fish in the tank I can't get anymore because they would eat them. My plan was to pass along the sea hare when the tank was cleared up but they didn't live long enough.

They are really cool to watch. I didn't even care if they ate HA or not, they were just fun to watch. Not sure why mine kept dying. Good luck with yours.

how long did you aclimate your for? was told to take it real slow and they need GREAT water quailty...but once again ive read so many conflicting storys who knows!

They just need slow acclimation, after that they will still do well in water with high nitrates. My local wholesaler has sky high nitrates and they survive there for weeks with no algae. They also need to be shipped with a cold pack as they don't tolerate extremes in temperature well.

I had an outbreak of some really nasty brown algae that no one would touch except my globe urchins. But the algae was even outpacing them and moving into my other systems. I tried a yellow tang and a few other things before remembering to get a sea hare. My tank is sparkling now, they are the best!

I drip acclimated both for about an hour +. My nitrates and phosphates were testing zero but I know I had phosphates due to the hair algae outbreak. Just one of those things dunno. My coral were doing great at the time so I know my parameters weren't too far off. I know they kept getting blown off the rocks by my power heads. I also had a mean purple tang at the time that would take swipes at them.

Mine was trolling along and made its way to the koralia and got stuck to it and died not once but twice so i do not keep them anymore. I just use phosphate remover and cut back the light hours.
